Blogmas- Käthe Wohlfahrt!

Hello Lovelies,

Whilst at the Christmas markets in Brugge, I popped into Käthe Wohlfahrt- a german Christmas shop, aka. MY DREAM. It was amazing. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take photos but it was honestly magical. You know the Christmas toy shops you see in the old films? Imagine that but extra-christmassy! I could’ve spent ££££ in there… but I managed to control myself and I bought the following;

They were quite expensive but they’re so sweet and cute- I couldn’t leave them! If you ever do come across a Käthe Wohlfahrt, make sure you pop in!

Blogmas- The Twelve Days!

Hello Lovelies,

Today’s post is a series of correspondence letters written by John Julius Norwich. I heard these read out loud and though they were hilarious so I hope you enjoy too!

25th December.
My dearest darling,
That partridge, in that lovely little pear tree! What an enchanting, romantic, poetic present! Bless you and thank you.
Your deeply loving Emily.

26th December.
Mr dearest darling Edward,
The two turtle doves arrived this morning and are cooing away in the pear tree as I write. I’m so touched and grateful.
With undying love, as always, Emily.

27th December.
My darling Edward,
You do thinks of the most original presents: whoever thought of sending anybody three French hens? Do they really come all the way from France? It’s a pity that we have no chicken coops, but I expect we’ll find some. Thank you, anyway, they’re lovely.
Your loving Emily.

28th December.
Dearest Edward,
What a surprise – four calling birds arrived this morning. They are very sweet, even if they do call rather loudly – they make telephoning impossible. But I expect they’ll calm down when they get used to their new home. Anyway, I’m very grateful – of course I am.
Love from Emily.

29th December.
Dearest Edward,
The postman has just delivered five most beautiful gold rings, one for each finger, and all fitting perfectly. A really lovely present – lovelier in a way than birds, which do take rather a lot of looking after. The four that arrived yesterday are still making a terrible row, and I’m afraid none of use got much sleep last night. Mummy says she wants us to use the rings to ‘wring’ their necks – she’s only joking, I think; though I know what she means. But I love the rings. Bless you.
Love, Emily.

30th December.
Dear Edward,
Whatever I expected to find when I opened the front door this morning, it certainly wasn’t six socking great geese laying eggs all over the doorstep. Frankly, I rather hoped you had stopped sending me birds – we have no room for them and they have already ruined the croquet lawn. I know you meant well, but – let’s call a halt, shall we?
Love, Emily.

31st December.
I thought I said no more birds; but this morning I woke up to find no less than seven swans all trying to get into our tiny goldfish pond. I’d rather not thinks what happened to the goldfish. The whole house seems to be full of birds – to say nothing of what they leave behind them. Please, please STOP.
Your Emily.

1st January.
Frankly, I think I prefer the birds. What am I to do with eight milkmaids – AND their cows? Is this some kind of a joke? If so, I’m afraid I don’t find it very amusing.

2nd January.
Look here Edward, this has gone far enough. You say you’re sending me nine ladies dancing; all I can say is that judging from the way they dance, they’re certainly not ladies. The village just isn’t accustomed to seeing a regiment of shameless hussies with nothing on but their lipstick cavorting round the green – and it’s Mummy and I who get blamed. If you value our friendship – which I do less and less – kindly stop this ridiculous behaviour at once.

3rd January.
As I write this letter, ten disgusting old men are prancing abour all over what used to be the garden – before the geese and the swans and the cows got at it; and several of them, I notice, are taking inexcusable liberties with the milkmaids. Meanwhile the neighbours are trying to have us evicted. I shall never speak to you again.

4th January.
This is the last straw. You know I detest bagpipes. The place has now become something between a menagerie and a madhouse and a man from the Council has just declared it unfit for habitation. At least Mummy has been spared this last outrage; they took her away yesterday afternoon in an ambulance. I hope you’re satisfied.

5th January.
Our client, Miss Emily Wilbraham, instructs me to inform you that with the arrival on her premises a half-past seven this morning of the entire percussion section of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and several of their friends she has no course left open to her but to seek an injunction to prevent your importuning her further. I am making arrangements for the return of much assorted livestock.

I am, Sir, Yours faithfully,

Blogmas- Christmas Drinks!

Hello Lovelies,

Now it’s getting cold, hot drinks on the go are a must. Have you tried all the latest? I’m a Starbucks girl but I must admit, Costa are definitely winning this year!

Black Forest Hot Chocolate- 100% the best drink they do and it’s returned again this year! It’s very sweet but the cherry syrup makes it sooooo good.

Gingerbread & Cream Latte- I’m a sucker for anything gingerbread and this is no exception. I always have to add a little sugar but I had a shot of vanilla syrup before and that was LUSH.

Hot Spiced Apple- To be blunt- YUM!! Hot.. spiced.. apple.. must I say anymore?

Caramelised Orange & Cream Hot Chocolate- This was actually really disappointing. The orange wasn’t very strong but the hot chocolate was still yummy. I’d say if you want an orange hot chocolate, melt some terry’s choc orange with milk In a mug!

Hazelnut Praline & Cream Hot Chocolate- This was very nice drink although I’m not a massive hazelnut fan. But if you are- 100% recommend.

Christmas Brulée Latte- This is disappointing- it just tastes like coffee but with extra sweetness.

Gingerbread Latte- 10000% better than Costa’s. I would say it’s on par with their chai latte, and that’s saying something.

Toffee Nut Latte- Very nutty but it blends nicely with the coffee. This is definitely a ‘cosy day’ drink.

Egg Nog Latte- YES YES YES YES. It’s Christmas once I have had one of these. However, they’re not to everyone’s tastes and I definitely have to be in the mood for one.

Salted Caramel Brownie Hot Chocolate- Quite literally tastes like a salted caramel brownie, its amazing. A good drink or the road or an evening.

I hope you get the chance to try them all- I hope you enjoyed this little post!

Blogmas- Stocking fillers! (Tesco edition)

Hello lovelies,

Stockings fillers are perhaps my favourite items to buy at Christmas but they can be quite difficult. So I thought I’d do a post on stockings fillers, but around different shops. After living in London for a year, it’s nice to be able to buy everything in one place sometimes! My first trip was to Tesco!

£1 and under…

£3 and under…

£5 and under…

£10 and under…

There were plenty of stockings fillers available but these are a few I picked out. The Lindt Reindeer is a must for anyone- it’s not Christmas if I don’t get one in my stocking! I think the Cast Iron cookie set is a really sweet gift too- cookie dough is SO good!! I hope this gave you a little inspiration- come back for the next one!

Blogmas- Christmas Films!

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome back- It’s Blogmas day 6! Today’s post is on Christmas films. I always look forward to Christmas films and they make me feel so happy and warm inside. So I you are looking for some Christmas movie inspiration or don’t know what to watch, here’s a list of my favourites:

These aren’t actually in any particular order but my favourite movie of all time is definitely The Holiday. Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Christmas. Do I need to say anymore?

Most of these are classics but some are newer movies- anything that has snow usually catches my eye. The Snowman is a movie which I ADORE. It is slightly sad but I watch it every day of December! Elf and Authur Christmas make an occurrence more than once in December too, I love them so much!

What are your Christmas movie favourites? Let me know!

Blogmas- Festive Make Up Favourites

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome to Blogmas day 5! Today’s post is on my festive make up favourites. I love make up but only ever really wear it in winter, but here are my recent favourites as we’ve approached the festivities.

Eye shadow is a HUGE part of winter make up for me and these are my favourites:

(Left to right)
Make up at home: Too Faced Chocolate Bar (Smells like chocolate still!)
Travelling or on the go: Too Faced Sugar Cookie Palette (Smells like vanilla cookies- so sweet!)
On the go or for your handbag: Nars Duo Shadows (Mine is ‘Bellissima’)

Foundations and contour are important too of course. I LOVE using Dior Star foundation during winter, along with the MAC Vanilla highlighting pigment. Contour wise I use Nars Laguna Bronzer and Nars Enrapture Blush.

Then? LIPS!

I have a mixture of high end lipsticks to drugstore but I love a good winter lip.

Drugstore wise I have the Make Up Revolution Lipstick in ‘Nostalgia’ paired with the lip liner ‘Fire.’ I actually received these in my Advent calendar and I LOVE them, the lipstick is a lovely bright red. Next I have a classic- Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107. This is a deep red matte and I have loved it for years.

These next two are actually Charlotte Tilbury. I adore Charlotte Tilbury’s lipsticks, they are to die for! On the left I have ‘Red Carpet Red’ which is a deeper berry red- perfect for Christmas. On the right I have ‘Glastonberry’ which is a deep burgundy purple. I usually wear this on an evening.

These last two are my winter nudes. On the left, ‘Velvet Teddy’, an orange based nude. On the right, my favourite lipstick of all time, ‘Brave.’ This is a pinky nude but it is BEAUTIFUL.

I hope you enjoyed this mini favourites post, Do you own any of these? If you have any festive favourites yourself, let me know!

Blogmas- 3D Cookie Tree

Hello Lovelies,

Welcome back to Blogmas! It’s day 4 and I’m starting to get the hang of it. I’m loving the festivities!! Today I made a 3D Cookie Tree- it was so much fun!

I bought the cookie cutter kit from Amazon but it’s actually from Lakeland. I used a basic vanilla cookie recipe to make the cookies first. So grab your shopping list and write;

For cookies:

  • 300g Unsalted Butter
  • 300g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Small Eggs, Beaten
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 600g Plain Flour, Sifted

For Buttercream:

  • 140g Butter
  • 280g Icing Sugar
  • Green Food Colouring

— Step 1 —
Firstly pre-heat the oven to 180 Degrees Celsius.

— Step —
Cream the sugar and butter together until the mixture is light and creamy.

— Step 3 —
Beat the eggs in a separate bowl. Add these along with the vanilla extract into the mixture and mix until creamy.

— Step 4 —
Slowly add the flour until the mixture forms a dough. Once you have a dough, split the dough in half and cover. Chill in the fridge for an hour. (I was inpatient, so I put mine in the freezer for 20 minutes)

— Step 5 —
Once chilled, roll the dough out onto a floured surface. Using the cookie cutters, cut 2 of each size and place on a floured baking tray.

— Step 6 —
Bake each batch for 10-12 minutes and then leave to cool on a cooling rack for an hour.

— Step 7 —
For the butter cream, mix the butter until creamed and then slowly add the icing sugar. Finally, add the green food colouring and put the green buttercream into a piping bag with a textured nozzle.

— Step 8 —
Set down your biggest cookie on whatever surface your tree will stand on. Add a small amount of icing and stick down the second cookie of the same size. Make sure the two cookies are at different angles.

— Step 9 —
I piped straight lines on the end corners because I used a textured nozzle. But if you have a circular nozzle, you can do a leaf like pattern show branches.

— Step 10 —
Keep adding your cookies on top until you’ve used all the sizes and built your tree. Then it’s time for the baubles and GLITTER. I used chocolate beans for the baubles and glitter pigment spray to make it look cute!

This is such an adorable festive treat, you could use it as a gift or as a table centrepiece.. or you could just eat it after you’ve made it! It was so much fun to make and didn’t cost too much either. Send me pictures of yours if you make one! I hope you enjoyed this little baking post. Come back for more tomorrow!
